Story
On April 25th, 2015 Saul David Raye & Jim Beckwith were at a Yoga conference in NYC when the the Nepal earthquake struck. They were moved by the devastating images that emerged from the event and began to just chant a prayer for everyone concerned. The mantra was ‘Om Mani Peme Hung Hri’ the Tibetan version of the healing mantra ‘Om Mani Padme Hum’. Some english words were also written, but the song was not finished. The song was played live at Shaktifest that year and dedicated to the people of Nepal. Due to life events the song was put on hold until september 2016 when during a weekend workshop in Denver, Colorado they sang the song with a group of people and the inspiration came to go to Nepal and record the song after a journey to India. Never having been to Nepal and not knowing anyone there, they reached to a Nepali friend in Los Angeles Manohar Gurung who put them in touch with his friend in Nepal Chetan Raj Karki who owned a recording studio. Chetan and his lovely wife Anu Kadhka hosted Jim and

Our friends Calia Marshall & Chase Nichter who had been with us in India, accompanied us to Nepal, helped bring the song to life and contributed their musical talents and love to the project. Calia sang on the song and helped create the vocal arrangement and Chase played violin and wrote a beautiful string arrangement.

At the recording studio in 3 days we played down basic tracks, recorded the vocals, guitar, harmonium, violin and tabla.
Upon returning to the states music producer Ben Leinbach added drums, David Watts played bass, Marla Leigh played flute and Bobby Pars added fretless guitar from Thailand and Ananda Yogiji added some more vocals.

Jim Beckwith mixed in Big Red Studio ( his traveling recording studio). And our friend Stefan Heger from Fish eye music mastered the song in Germany.

All the musicians and Stefan Heger have donated their talents and time to this project. We are deeply grateful to everyone who has supported this music and helped to bring it to the world.

lyrics

Nepal Song (May All Beings be Free)

(words + music saul david raye + jim beckwith)

When the heavens open and the earth shakes
All around you is fire
Heart of the world breaks open wide
Wake us up to the love inside
Open your eyes to the pain you feel
Compassion grows like the lotus blooms
Great ones come teach only love
Free yourself and rise above

May the Jewel in the Lotus Shine
Unite all beings as one
May the Jewel in the Lotus Shine
Awaken all hearts in love

Om Mani Peme Hung Hri
Om Mani Peme Hung Hri
Om Mani Peme Hung Hri
Om Mani Peme Hung Hri

(Bridge)
May All Beings be Free
May All beings live in Peace
May All Beings be Free
May All beings live in Peace

When the children cry and mothers pray
Don't turn your love away
What will it take to break your heart
Open wide let the healing start
May the thoughts and actions of my own life
Contribute to the blessing of all
Be a lamp to our shine your light
We are the ones to make things right

May the Jewel in the Lotus Shine
and unite all beings is one
May the Jewel in the Lotus Shine
Awaken all hearts in love

Om Mani Peme Hung Hri
Om Mani Peme Hung Hri
Om Mani Peme Hung Hri
Om Mani Peme Hung Hri

(Bridge)
May All Beings be Free
May All beings live in Peace
May All Beings be Free
May All beings live in Peace
